Continuing with my Placement Saga- Cisco and finally Oracle

I didn’t find much time to complete my Placement Saga. Finally its time I finish it off. Cisco was the next company which I appeared for. I wasnt interested in this as my interests didn’t align with their work. But then just to give it a chance I wrote the apti. I hardly knew anything … Read more

My placement saga-2 @Goldman Sachs

The next company for which i got qualified to the interview round was Goldman Sachs. There was a long between DirectI and GoldmanSachs during which I appeared for few companies which i couldn’t clear the apti- I was not very good in C as I had stopped using it in the 3rd year itself cause of which I used to do real bad in C-AptisGoldman Sachs.Goldman Sachs recruitment procedure included- Apti, Group Activity, Technical Interview. Goldman Sachs(GS) increased their cut-off from 7.5 to 8 which gave me a real good chance to clear the apti. And their apti was not that difficult either. There were few simple C based questions and few quant questions and few question on Data Interpretation (which i did not attempt). This time I started off with the Technical Section as it takes less time to complete Technical than the Quant. I had lot of time to attempt the Quant section. GS also had coding test followed by an essay writing πŸ˜› We were asked to write efficient code/algo for 2 questions they had given. One was- Deleting the characters from the source string based on the input for the characters to be deleted and the other was some crazy game which i did not even attempt. Then in the essay we were asked to write our 3 qualities and support them with certain examples. Actually we were given 7 minutes to write the essay but I wrote the essay when we were asked to write the code πŸ˜‰ I had lots of time left during the coding session so instead of wasting it I wrote the essay as well πŸ˜€

My placement saga-1, @DirectI

I have finally decided to document my Placement journey. May be for the use of aspirants but atleast for my record πŸ˜‰ I will also try to list out the questions asked and the type of apti paper. I will be writing about those companies for which I qualified to the interview round.

The first company in the list is DirectI. Very few in the college knew that such a company existed I knew about the company as it had sponsored GIDS-2008. They were coming to the campus for the first timDirectIe and had uploaded huge information on the site regarding their selection procedure and interviews. Their recruitment site looked really resourceful and they were looking for people with really good coding and technical skills. I still remember their PPT which went on for more than an hour and half and i had to listen to the whole presentation standing and moreover is was terribly sick that day- running nose, fever :(. Their selection process was a bit different- No apti, πŸ™‚ instead an online programming test πŸ™ on their coding platform- CodeChef which they were badly promoting ;), then 2 rounds at the campus and some 9-10 rounds in their Mumbai Head office :P. Luckily they had to postpone the Coding test because by the time they completed their presentation it was 7PM and the Computer Center would be open only till 8PM. So they decided to come some other time for the coding test. I was happy that atleast i got sometime to recover and get well before the test.

Entreprenuership Awareness Program- Day 5 and …

Started off late for the last day of an exciting program- Thanks for the time i spent waiting for my friend to get ready- Guess he must have planned for a date!! ;). On reaching the venue we realised that we had not missed much. Today Mr V M Bhat, the other Program instructor, was to tell about preapration of Project Report- Not a ordinary one- But a report which can impress and convince the readers that “Yes! This project is promising”. To add to being late, there was some problem with the pen i had got- so couldn’t write anything πŸ™

Entreprenuership Awareness Program- Day 4

We started off Day-4 by discussing some of the important aspects to be considered for starting an industry. I would like to list down some of the points here: Capital, Man-Skill, Management, Product- Choice of prodcut. Later on there was a discussion on “Opportunity”.Β  Mr Bannerjee gave examples of different opportunities which were missed by very well known companies/entrepreneures. One has to break out of fixed ways and think of New and better routes. The entrepreneur should have more of Lateral thinking. What exactly is Opportunity? Opportunity is a course of action which at first sight may not appear possible but with focussed thinking possiblity should increase. Opportunity is as real as raw materials, labour, finance. It exists only when u see it.

Entreprenuership Awareness Program- Day 3

Day 3 started off with a group activity. Pradeep Banerjee, who was the facilitator for theΒ  program asked the participants to divide themselves into groups of 5 and each group was asked to discuss and list out as many characteristics as possible which can be seen in an entrepreneur. Each group was given 10 minutes to do so and our group listed 26 characteristics. Later each group was asked to read out the characteristics. Everyone more or less baring a few points had listed the same characteristics. This was a direct activity- A mild exercise to start off the day’s proceedings πŸ˜‰

After this each one was provided with a 3 page handout which consisted of qualities which represent Regenerating Cycle, Degenerating Cycle and the characteristics of an entrepreneur. We were asked to read through the handout and clear ambiguous points. Many doubts were raised and were clarified by Mr. Banerjee.

Entrepreneurship Awareness Program: Day 2

Going in to the Day-2, the discussion that was started at the end of Day-1 turned into a fierce debate with participants opposing view of the other. Just to remind u- The game was very simple- U are given four rings and a peg at distance. The aim is to put the ring in to the peg and there are 10 positions marked from 1 … 10 each point separated from the other by some distance. Putting the ring in the peg meant SUCCESS with 1 point (mind it from any position) and the ring dropping out meant FAILURE with 0 points πŸ˜‰ Some of the participants – guess a few- had some sort of knowledge about the market analysis and stuff. They used it to analyze the game situation but the facilitator, Mr Pradeep Banerjee, was too good to tackle. He had a solution for anything and everything the participants questioned. What i feel after playing the game is that a person has to measure his abilities and analyze the opportunity at hand and then take calculated risks in going at the opportunities. For every thing at first there’s a risk factor involved- but an entrepreneur’s fav is Risk πŸ˜‰ There were some points mentioned by the Mr Banerjee-Β  Measuring the opportunity- which none of us did, Its better to Succeed and go up rather than Fail and Come down, taking calculated risks. He mentioned in brief about having a Feedback System in us- which would help us in analyzing our behavioral history (Something similar to the Browser History)

Coming to this year’s Web Club recruitments- I couldn’t attend the first round interviews as i had to attend the Sun CA Induction programme in Bangalore.
