BOJUG Meet- 20th March 2010

BOJUG

BOJUG met for the month on March at Misys Software Solutions (India) Private Limited. The meet was completely focused on Android and learning Android framework is on the top of my wish list- So a perfect match it was :). Its since 2nd Year that I wanted to learn Android and also had 2 failed attempts to learn it. 🙁 The session today at BOJUG was more giving overview of Android framework- oriented towards the beginners. It was delivered by Bhavya Siddappa, Android Evangelist at IBM. You would be wondering- IBM and Andoird? They are more focused on building Apps- Enterprise level apps to be precise, thats what i heard from the speaker. The talk triggered lot of discussions and we had few people familiar with the framework who added lot of knowledge to the discussions. I got to learn a lot from those discussions. The talk went on for about an hour or so. There was also a surprise talk on Scala by Byju from Ness Technologies. I am kind of familiar with Scala having learn’t it sometime back. The discussion was mainly centered on- How a person familiar with OO migrate to FP? Both are 2 different programming paradigms and migration is a tad difficult but with practice everything comes naturally 😉 I had to come back from the mid of the discussions as it was getting late and I had to travel back some 20Kms 🙂 I got to meet a fellow OSUM Leader at the meet and we had pretty good discussions about various technologies on our way back home. In all pretty good meet 🙂 Now its time to do some Android work!!!
