Book Review: The 5 Resets

We all have experienced and been experiencing stress in life. We are all fighting at multiple fronts: jobs, parenting, health, finances, pollution, politics to name a few. These are affecting our quality of life and we are getting stuck deep in them with each passing day. If we are able to identify the problem its a step closer to solving it.

The problem is we are not able to identify stress as a problem. We feel that we are resilient enough to absrob all the challenges we are facing and keep fighting towards solving them. Human can only absorb to certain extent. The moment it gets past this extent it takes a toll on our life and we are absolutely not aware of it until it manifests itself into Diabetes, Hyper tension, insomania, cancer, alzheimers, dementia and the likes.

There are numerous books written, numerous videos online, tons of articles written on the topic of stress management. But you need something from authentic sources, something from the expert in the field. And this book The 5 Resets: Rewire Your Brain and Body for Less Stress and More Resilience is one such book authored by Dr. Aditi Nerurkar an expert in the field of stress management.

In the book The 5 Resets, Dr Aditi talks about identifying stress, how brain works in stressful situations and then she talks about 5 areas where we can work on reducing our stress. In each area she talks about 2-3 techniques one can adopt towards being more resilient and stress free. The author talks about picking 2 techniques and mastering them, habituating ourselves with them and then moving to pick next set of techniques. This is because the brain goes into a stress mode when it sees lot of changes to the status quo.

I really found the book to be informative and useful techniques that I can easily adopt in my daily life. It is filled with case studies so that you might be able to relate yourself to some of the case studies. The author talks about the stress in general, how to identify and score our sleves using the stress score questionnaire. Then she moves to explaining how brain behaves in times of stress and normal situations. The author then explains the 5 resets in each chapter where in each reset is basically an area of your life or body which you need to fix so as to reduce your stress. So each of the reset there are 2-3 techniques which one can learn and incorporate in their lives.

Its an easy to read, interesting and small book. I would highly recommend this book. I learnt a lot from this. Lot of techniques I knew before but I didn’t knew why they worked. So knowing why something works makes you more encouraged to adopt the techniques.
