Book Review: The Dairy of a CEO: The 33 Laws of Business and Life

I stumbled upon the book “The Dairy of a CEO written by Steven Bartlett” but I didn’t pick it to read thinking it was more for the CEOs or managers. It sounded kind of a business book. But I was wrong. This is book is more about the individual, I would say 75% individual and 25% managerial.

The author of the book The Dairy of a CEO has organized the content of his book around 4 pillars:

  • The Self – this is where the focus is about yourself
  • The Story – this is where the focus is about building the narrative about selling. It may be selling your qualities or your creation.
  • The Philosophy – this is where the focus is about your beliefs.
  • The Team – this is where the focus is about building team and organization.

Each pillar has different laws. Each law starts with some context, then case study to explain the context and then ideas from the author. Every law ends with a nice summary and a beautiful quote. I really liked the quotes in the book – they are very impactful. I also liked the way each law is summarized so it becomes easy for your to refer back and revise the laws. I really enjoyed the case studies, some of them were really interesting. At few places I felt there was too much verbosity and in such place I read through them faster not stressing of each and every word. Overall a very useful book to read.
