How-To Recover password under Ubuntu

If you forgot you password for your ubuntu system you can recover using the following steps

Turn your computer on.

Press ESC at the grub prompt.

Press e for edit.

Highlight the line that begins kernel ………, press e

Go to the very end of the line, add rw init=/bin/bash

press enter, then press b to boot your system.

Your system will boot up to a passwordless root shell.

Type in passwd username

Set your password.

Type in reboot

  2. It does work, I changed my passwd successfully,
    But theres a little problem, the new passwd has to be 1 digit.
    Because after it says ENTER NEW PASSWD, when you type a word or number it suddenly says RETYPE THE PASSWD and doesn’t give more time…..But very useful.

  4. its not working.. i’m a beginner…. on terminal…
    grub and press enter…
    now it is showing grub prompt
    but after that when i’m pressing ESC and the e fior editing , it is not showing nething.. plz reply me soon..
